Best Weekend Ever!

Have ya ever seen Best Week Ever on VH1? It's a great show. Check it out (that's where I stole my subject title from!).

I had a great weekend! It was unusual for me (us) because we did things we don't normally do (anymore). Sorry for the following play-by-play...I'm really just putting it here to engrave it in my memory!

Friday evening: Honey wanted to go to a scary industrial band concert at the Gothic. That sort of music makes me want to "scratch my own eyes out" so I let him go alone. He met up with some friends from Fort Collins at the show so he wasn't totally alone.
I had planned on just having a boring night alone at home while he was at the show. Instead, I got proactive and made myself some plans!
I met dad at his gf's to visit with her after her foot surgery earlier that day. We visited for a while then dad and I went to Old Chicago's in Parker. This happens to be a sort of tradition between us...going to Old C's for beers and thin crust pizza with andoulie sausage and green olives on it. We crashed a couple tables of youngn's and were very sociable. Then we had long deep talks and some laughs. It was great!
After dinner with dad, I met up with some old high school friends, most of whom I hadn't seen since the reunion in August. Let's just review real quick...
Mandy (my dear friend) and I drove up to Karen's together. Karen is married to Brad (who also attended our school) and they have a cute 4 yr old kid. Aliesha and Kelly were there (they're another couple from high school who happened to marry a couple years ago!). I've never hung out with Aliesha and Kelly before so I didn't know what to expect. Anyway, the six of us drank some beers, reminisced about who had changed since high school, and laughed about the others. We played Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture edition throughout which I LMAO. We weren't particularly drunk or anything but everyone was cracking me up! I laughed so hard I was literally crying. It was awesome! I haven't laughed that hard in forever.
When I finally came home at 2AM (four hours past my bedtime!) Honey was making the bed. I had stripped the old sheets before I left but then forgot to put the new clean ones on! WOOPSIE!

Saturday: We slept till 11. I don't think I have done that since college (the first round of college, that is). With half our day wasted, we had brunch at IHOP. Mmmmmm IHOP. In the evening, we hopped on the light rail downtown to attend the Colorado Mammoth game. I had won tickets through a local radio station and the seats were AWESOME! Since the Avs aren't playing this season, we Coloradoans try to compensate by watching and attending professional lacross games or other hockey games from local universities. The game rocked. Even though we lost. It was a good fight!

Now here's where it starts to get interesting. So if you've skimmed most of the above, pay attention now!

Instead of going home right after the game (@ 9pm -- one hour till bedtime!), we hopped the train and went further downtown. We found this Gelazzi place I had heard about on the news and had two drinks each. They give you two scoops of whatever flavor of gellato you want in a big martini glass. Then they pour liquor over the gellato to make a cocktail. I had a Mai Tai and a Blue Luna. Don't ask me what was in them...they were tasty though! We made it home at 1am. :)

Sunday was relatively relaxing. We did laundry all day. Honey helped fold and put away. I got in a fight (that I knew was coming) with my mom over the phone. I was in tears by the end of the conversation. However, without going into too much detail about that issue, just know that, despite my tears and subsequent puffy eyes, it was a good conversation that needed to happen. (We all have our demons. My mother is my biggest one. I'm in therapy right now to learn how to better deal with her and this conversation was a first step for me. It was hard and it still kinda hurts but it was necessary and the end result --though she may disagree!-- was positive!) I handled myself very well and therefore was able to enjoy the rest of my evening with a huge weight lifted from my shoulders.

I watched Desperate Housewives last night because a couple of trusted friends had suggested it to me. The title of the show just disgusts me so I had refused to watch it until I was finally coaxed into it. I have to admit I kinda liked it! It was amusing. The ladies reminded me of the women in the neighborhood where Edward Scissorhands moves into! Ironically, Danny Elfman did the theme song to Desperate Housewives...and if you know Edward Scissorhands or any of Tim Burton's other films, you know that Danny Elfman does the score to most (if not all) of his films, too!

All in all it was a great weekend! Many laughs, some tears, good drinks and great company!

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled Monday...
