I Wanna Be a Knitter - Revisited

Do I want to knit or do I want to crochet? That is the question.

I've leaned towards knitting because I've heard more about it than crocheting in my circle of friends and acquaintences. I was reading today's post at Goddessing and am now intrigued by crocheting. Dawn (webmiztris) and DM: you both crochet...what's the difference between the two? My grandma taught me all sorts of domesticated and crafty things when I was young, such as embroidery, cross-stitching, knitting, etc. But I've forgotten most of it. I used to "crochet" long rope kinds of things by threading yard between four of my fingers in a certain pattern. That's the extent of my knowledge. Maybe I should just go to Michaels and flip through the books to find out the difference between knitting and crocheting. Hmmmm...

On a totally unrelated subject, I have been plagued by curiosity of the Catholic church lately. Not to the extent that I think I want to join or anything...nonono. What I'm wondering is -- and please forgive me if I offend any Catholics out there...that is certainly not my intent -- with all this talk of the Pope being ill and receiving a tracheotomy, what happens if he dies? Do they choose a new Pope like in The Davinci Code? That was fictional and overflowing with conspiracies so I truly don't know what to believe! And I imagine it is only out of a deep respect for His Holiness and what he represents to his people that they (ie. the media) don't start talking about the possibility of needing to choose a new Pope. This is totally unlike the media of today's world, where, really, absolutely nothing is sacred or off limits. Truth be told, I am proud of the media for avoiding that issue but, unfortunately, this does nothing to answer my questions. I suppose I could search for my answers on the internet but I tend to believe almost everything I read on the internet (even if I know it can't be true) so that's not really a good option for me. So if anyone can enlighten me on this subject, I would be grateful.

I'm going to a Women's Self Defense class tomorrow. I'm totally excited to kick the crap outta some guy dressed in a big padded suit. I've got some frustrations to get out (thank you, mom) and while normally I'd go to dad's and shoot the life out of some empty soda cans with my Kimber, this is an excellent alternative. I'm takin some girlfriends with me. And it's free! Woo hoo!

That's all I have to say about that...
